Adorable

I received my string of turtle today, though I ordered a small one most of the leaves look healthy and happy I kind of wish it had a few more strands but I’m going to work hard to make sure it’s happy and healthy! For winter protection they wrapped it in cotton I’m super happy with all my plants so far!

Breathtaking!

The Stromanthe Triostar was the last plant I unwrapped from my second order from mygraenscape.com. I gasped when I saw this beautiful plant with its long leaves of dark and light pink and green. The underside of the leaves are deep pink. And it has some stripes, especially underneath. She is very healthy and has a few new leaves unfurling. All the plants were packaged up very well. Thanks so much!

ZZ Plant

My ZZ :-)

I'm so happy to have received this ZZ plant. Originally I ordered four plants, then after looking at my order I realized 2 of the same plant was in my cart. So I contacted mygraenscape.com and it was just in time as the shipment hadn't gone out yet. So I was advised I could pick another plant so that is how I became a plant parent for my ZZ :-) I'm grateful for the kindness I received -Thank you Imtiaz!
This is a very healthy plant. It's tall with interesting and shiny leaves. So nice to have this plant. Thanks mygraenscape.com
p.s. I want to purchase the ZZ Raven with my next order.

How to Care for Low Maintenance Plants

Most low maintenance plants prefer bright, indirect light. But they adapt when conditions shift. ZZ plants handle shady corners without losing their glossy shine. Snake plants tolerate everything from low light to filtered sun. And golden pothos grows happily under office fluorescents. Keep one rule in mind. Skip harsh afternoon sun from south-facing windows. It burns leaves within an hour. So place plants 50 to 80 cm back, or hang a sheer curtain. But Canadian winters shrink daylight hours fast. Shift pots closer to windows from November to March. And you'll notice stronger growth by spring.

Common Problems with Low Maintenance Plants

Yellow leaves usually point to one culprit. Too much water. So check the soil right away. Soggy? Stop watering. Let the pot dry out completely. This takes 7 to 14 days depending on pot size and room temperature. And trim away mushy or black roots if you repot. But prevention is simple. Learn the basics and you'll dodge this entirely.

When stems stretch toward the window with wide gaps between leaves, your plant wants more light. So shift it 30 cm closer. That small move makes a real difference. And rotate the pot a quarter turn weekly so every side gets balanced light. But also prune leggy stems back by a third. New growth comes back bushier. This happens most during Canadian winters when daylight drops under 9 hours.

Dry air causes this. And Canadian forced-air furnaces are the worst offender. Humidity below 25% crisps leaf edges within days. Group your low maintenance plants together to lift local humidity. Or run a small humidifier nearby. But don't mist ZZ or snake plants. They hate wet leaves. Brown tips also appear from mineral buildup. So flush the soil with clean water monthly to wash out fertiliser salts.

Mushy, dark roots smell sour. That's rot. So act quickly. Lift the plant from its pot. And cut off every soft, brown root with clean scissors. Let the roots air-dry for 2 to 3 hours on a paper towel. Then repot in fresh, well-draining soil. But halve your watering routine going forward. Pots without drainage holes almost guarantee root rot. So always pick pots with holes.

Frequently Asked Questions About Low Maintenance Plants

ZZ plants, snake plants, and golden pothos sit at the top of the list. They handle low light, skipped waterings, and dry furnace air. And all three survive Canadian winters without extra humidifiers or grow lights. ZZ plants go 3 weeks between waterings. Snake plants briefly tolerate 10 degrees Celsius. So pothos grows in almost any room. Start with one. You'll want more fast.

It depends on the plant, the season, and your home's temperature. Most low maintenance plants need water every 2 to 4 weeks. In summer, check soil weekly. But in winter, stretch it to every 3 to 5 weeks. Always use the finger test. Push 5 cm into the soil. Dry means water. Damp means wait. And underwatering hurts these plants far less than overwatering.

Yes. That's exactly what makes them low maintenance. ZZ plants evolved under African forest canopies with very little light. Snake plants grow in everything from full shade to bright indirect light. But growth slows in dim rooms. You might see 2 new leaves monthly instead of 5. That's completely normal for Canadian basement suites and north-facing condos.

They do, to a point. Research confirms snake plants pull formaldehyde, benzene, and trichloroethylene from sealed rooms. Pothos absorbs carbon monoxide and xylene. But one small plant won't overhaul your air quality. You'd need roughly 6 to 8 plants in a standard bedroom to see meaningful changes. Still, every plant helps. And they add humidity during dry Canadian winters.
